Attorney General Steve Six said The Recal Centermisused Kansans’ personal information for financiak benefit. The judgment prevents the company from any futurde unauthorized use ofthe records. Accordingy to the judgment, the Recall Center and its owner Keituh Hayes sold tens of thousands of Kansas vehicle title and registration records in violation of the contract andKansas law. The law prohibitws any person from knowingly selling a list of nameds and addresses derived from publi c records for the purpose of offeringt for sale any propertyor service. In January the KDR and the Information Network of Kansas entereds into a contract with theRecalkl Center.
Under the agreement the companhy was permitted to purchase Kansas Vehicle title andregistrationss records, which could then be used for specific legal purposes. • Assisting car manufacturers in notifyint car ownersof safety-related defect s to be remedied at the car manufacturer’e expense. • Assisting authorized insurers in processinv an application forliability insurance. • Assistint the government or law enforcemeny in carrying out theirofficial functions. Assisting businesses in verifying informatio for the purpose of compiling vehicle history reports, as long as the vehiclr history reports do not identify the name or address of any current or previous owners.
