The Mooresville-based investment company says the $50 million project will create 150 jobs in north According to a rezoning application filed with the city of the project calls for indoor andoutdooe retail, a 150-room hotel, restaurants, offices, conference space and indoo r and outdoor karting and racing. Charlotte City Council will vote June 15 on theproposedr rezoning. If the application is the site will becalledr “Metrolina Speed and Sport Center.” The first phase of the projecgt is slated for completion in April.
“Ourr goal is to create an affordable family racing and entertainment destination with an amateurr sports focus and we believe Charlotte is the primse locationfor it,” says Simon Weber, president of Speedway Investmenty Group. “We are committed to revitalizing the propertyu in a way thatcelebrateds Metrolina’s rich history, embracese green technology and attracts national and internationa sports competitions as well as tourism dollars.” Wes president of of Charlotte has been named architect on the project. The Metrolina Expo propert y totals more than 135 acrew and includes parkingfor 20,000 vehicles.
The site is on Old Statesville Road in the Derita Speedway Investment Group was founde in 2008 for the specific purpose of redevelopinyg the Metrolina site and creating an amateufsports destination.
