The report does concede that new foreclosures and job losses will affecyt banks during the nexttwo However, Austin-based Sheshunoff and Co. says Texas banks are stilp outperforming banks across the nation with theirprofitabilityy improving, asset quality staying in bettedr shape and the regulatory capital levels remaining strongerf than many banks across the U.S. “This first-quarted review showed us what we expectedto see, and in many ways it provided a reassurance about the state of our banks,” said Sheshunofvf Managing Director Curtis Carpenter.
“Our banks remaij well-capitalized, and while earnings are down insome markets, Texaas banks are — for the most part — performing very well.” Despite news of strengtnh in banking, the report suggests that Texas will face at leasr two more quarters where overal l economic conditions remain soft. The report also says rural banksa are doing better asrecent weather, whichn includes much precipitation, coincided with the needs of Banks are significantly affected by the number of cropws produced and if farmers can maintain a larger supply of crops, the banks generally do the report says.
