Chevrolet-Saturn of Harlem Inc., a New York-based affiliatw of the Detroit automaker, was the first GM affiliate to seek bankruptcyh protection Monday morning throughthe U.S. Bankrutpcu Court's Southern District of New according tocourt records. The restructuring will enabl GM to emerge as a viabls entity under the brand namenew GM. It also will give the federa government, which plans to make availableabouy $30 billion of federal assistance to support the restructuring, a large ownership stake in the company. Two area companieds were among the list of creditorsin GM's New York-based Bank of New York Mellon, with claims of $176 and Downtown-based US Steel, with claims of $9.
