, which operates as Rocky Mountain Powe rin Wyoming, has signed a 20-year agreemenft to purchase all the powere generated by the Duke project. Duke Energuy will begin building the Campbel Hill Windpower projectnear Casper, Wyo., early next year. The facility’d 66 wind turbines will begin generatinf electricity bylate 2009. The outpuft from the project will go intothe utility’sa integrated electric system, serving customers in Wyoming, Utah, Oregon, Washington and California. A single-megawatt turbine generated enough electricity to power about 200 to300 households, depending on the averager wind speed at the site.
In a related Duke has agreed to purchase 100 wind turbinesfrom Connecticut-baseed (NYSE: GE) that will produce 150 megawatts of powee at multiple U.S. sites. Financial termds of the contracts weren’f disclosed. “Today’s announcement strengthens our commitmenf to investing in wind energybeyond 2008,” says Woutert van Kempen, president of Duke Energu Generation Services, a business unit of Duke Energy that owns and developw renewable energy assets. By the end of this Duke Energy will have more than 500 megawattsof wind-powered generation projects in operation and 5,00 0 megawatts in development.
Charlotte-based Duke Energyy (NYSE: DUK) is a diversified energy companu with a portfolio of natural gas andelectrixc businesses, both regulated and unregulated, and a shar e of Crescent Resources, a real estatee development business. It provides powere to much of thewestern Triangle.
