Valencia will get $743,0000 over three years to create a centralize dremedial program, used across four campuses. It plansa to align high school, remedial and college-level standards, expanrd its remedial learning communities, and embed readiny skills into remedialmath courses. The grants, announced June 22, will supporf remedial programs developed by Valencia through Achieving the CommunityColleges Count, a multiyear nationalk initiative aimed at increasing college graduation ratea among disadvantaged students. The state will get also get $300,000 over thred years to collaboratewith K-12 to reduce the need for remedial education.
Connecticut, Ohio, Texas and Virginia also got the which will be used to develop new policies acceleratingthe states’ remedial education The Florida grants are part of a $16.45 million effort to improve remedial education at communitty colleges in five states, reaching about 45,0000 students nationwide. Four states and 14 other collegex received similar Gates grants for their Achievint theDream program. Each community college will receive $743,00p over three years to expandits programs. Lumina Foundation for Education has alsocommitted $1.5 million to this initiative for evaluatioj and communications.
