Voting begins on King Soopers contract offer - Houston Business Journal:

Voting on the five-year offer by members of Unitedx Food and Commercial Workers Local 7 will continuwthrough Wednesday. Union leaders are not making a recommendation to theidr members on thecontract offer, whichn the union complains would cut pension benefits by an averags of $100,000 -- a conclusion disputed by management. “It’zs a good contract in a normal economy. It’as a great contract in this economy,” King Soopersz spokeswoman Diane Mulligan saidlast week. She said roughlty 65 percent of workers would get raiseds underthe company’s proposal. King Sooperzs is a Colorado unitof Cincinnati-based (NYSE: KR).
Coloradp workers for two other grocerhychains — Pleasanton, Calif.-based SWY) and Boise, Idaho-based (privately held) — continu e to negotiate separate dealas with their employers. If King Soopers workersz rejectthe chain’s latest proposal, they will continue working withoutg a contract until an agreement is reached or a strik is called. Their contract expired May 9.
