University of Dayton has record number of student applications - Dayton Business Journal:

The Dayton campus has received morethan 12,000 applications, puttinhg the university in a positiomn to become even more selective in its Last year, the university reported a recorcd 11,578 applications for its 2008 academivc year and enrolled a near-record 1,995. The universith typically enrolls 1,750 to 1,80p students in its first-year class. “While it has been a challenging year for manyprivate schools, we have had tremendouas success in balancing all the goals we have for a first-yeat class,” said Sundar Kumarasamy, vice president of enrollment in a news release.
“We think that all of the investmentr and preparedness we have done in the pastfew years, anticipatinvg a drop in number of potential high school has paid off this year.” Kumarasamy said the incomin 2009 first-year class is expected to be the best academically prepared class in the university’s history, with significanty increases in college entrance test scores, high school GPAs and high schoolk rankings. The school also has seen a jump inits out-of-state which is expected to jump threde percentage points from last year to 46 percent up from 39 percent in 2007.
